About the Artist

Ivan Palovič (viola) was born into a musical family. He started to play violin and piano at the age of six studying with Maria Skladana, Gabriela Holičová and Eva Rebrova. He carried on his violin studies at the Conservatory in Bratislava in the class of professor Jozef Kopelman, Bohdan Warchal jn. and František Török. After graduating from Conservatory he studied viola at the Academy of Music and Drama in Bratislava (with professor Jozef Hošek; Bachelor and Master of Art Diplomas), at the Hochschule Musik Theater Zürich, Switzerland (with professor Nicolas Corti; „Konzertdiplom“) and at the University Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria (with professor Peter Langgartner; Postgraduate Studies). In 2011 he finished his doctoral studies at the Academy of Music and Drama in Bratislava (with professor Jozef Hošek). He has also participated in a number of master classes in Slovakia (International Summer Music Masterclasses in Piešťany), Austria (Sommerakademie Wien-Prag-Budapest) and in Switzerland (Académie de Musique Tibor Varga in Sion) studying with Mincho Minchev, Siegfried Führlinger, Nobuko Imai and Ulrich Eichenauer.  Between 2011 and 2014 he took private lessons with Nobuko Imai. Currently, he teaches viola at the Academy of Music and Drama and Conservatory in Bratislava.


             In 2004 he won 1st Prize at the International Viola Competition „Beethoven’s Hradec“ (Czech Republic) as well as Prize for the Best Performance of Beethoven Composition and Prize for the Best Performance of  Czech Contemporary Composition. In the same year he obtained Bohuslav Martinů Prize at the International Prague-Vienna-Budapest Summer Academy (Austria). In 2006 he was a nominee for a prestigious Ľudovít Rajter Prize for outstanding young Slovak performers.  In 2013 he received Prize for the Best Teacher at the 17th International  Competition of Bohdan Warchal in playing the bow-string instruments. He has been  a member of many national and international orchestras e.g. Unici Ensemble, Orchestra Sinfonica “A. Scontrino” (Italy), Europa Philharmonie Magdeburg, Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra (Slovakia) etc.  In 2004-2005 he was a member of Arensky Quartet (Switzerland) performing at the Tonhalle Zürich.   

            Ivan Palovič has performed as a soloist with Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra, State Philharmonic Orchestra Košice, Slovak Sinfonietta Žilina, Moyzes Quartet (Slovak Republic) under the baton of e.g. Oliver Dohnányi, Marián Lejava, Tomáš Hanus as well as given concerts in Austria, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Poland, Italy, Czech Republic and Slovak  Republic. He has also given recitals at a number of international and national music festivals e.g. Felix  Mendelssohn-Bartholdy International Music Festival (Krakow, Poland), Anglo-Czechoslovak Trust (London, Great Britain), ARMONIE DELLA SERA (Italy), Orfeus Festival,  Tatra Bank Festival, Festival of Young Concert Artists, Summer Festival of Young Artists, Trenčín Music Spring, Levoča Music Spring, Poprad Music Spring, Lipany Music Spring, Prešov Music Autumn, Kubín Music Autumn, Topoľčany Music Autumn, Rimavská Sobota Music Autumn, 24 Hours Piano, Gallery of Music Nitra, Radio Devín Evenings, SchubertFEST, Orava Klasik, Konfrontácie (Slovak Republic). He has made solo and chamber music recordings for Czech Radio, Slovak Radio and Austrian Radio & Television ORF. He has recorded a CD with chamber music of distinguished Slovak composer Juraj Hatrík for Pavlík Records and participated also in a world premiere CD recording of music by Anton Aschner. He regularly performes pieces by distinguished Slovak composers such as Vladimír Godár, Iris Szeghy, Pavol Bagin, Juraj Hatrík, Marcel Seneši, Peter Machajdík, Ľuboš Bernáth, Jana Pondelíková.
